About me

I'm Hannah Large, an independent philanthropy consultant helping organisations create meaningful and lasting impact.

Over the past decade, I've worked across charities, universities, and funders, giving me experience of both sides of the funding relationship. I've advised philanthropists and family foundations on grant-making, secured funding for charities, developed large-scale education programmes, and managed partnerships that bring together charities, funders, schools, universities, and communities.

My approach

I combine strategic thinking with practical experience of turning ideas into programmes and partnerships. I enjoy getting to grips with complex questions, understanding what different stakeholders need and finding pragmatic solutions that help organisations move forward.

My work spans philanthropy advice, research, governance, programme development and project management. Whether I'm helping a foundation make better funding decisions or supporting a small charity to develop a new programme, I aim to bring clarity, rigour and a collaborative approach. You can read more about my services here.

My experience

Before becoming an independent consultant, I worked as a Senior Consultant at New Philanthropy Capital (NPC), advising trusts, foundations, and philanthropists on funding strategy and practice.

Prior to that, I held leadership roles at the education charity Classics for All, where I developed programmes, built partnerships, and secured funding to expand access to opportunities for young people across the UK. I began my career as a Secondary English teacher and have an MSc in Education Policy and International Development. I have also held trustee roles at Bristol Hospitality Network and BREAD Youth Project (now part of Oasis Hub North Bristol).

I currently sit on the Programmes Committee at Quartet Community Foundation and am a Philanthropy Associate at New Philanthropy Capital.

Why Further Out?

Alongside my consultancy work, I'm particularly interested in widening access to the outdoors and supporting women and people of marginalised genders to feel comfortable and confident to explore wild places. I co-founded Making Tracks Bristol, a mentoring community supporting women in trail, fell, and ultra running. I also write about nature, adventure, and access to the outdoors in my Substack, Further Out and am a member of The Green Runners.

Through my consulting work, I support organisations to explore new possibilities and think about how we can create positive change for people and planet. The name Further Out aims to reflect this, while also capturing my own love of the outdoors and exploring wild places.

I live in Bristol with my husband and three young children. When I'm not working, you'll usually find me running in the hills with a map, exploring new places, or planning our next adventure as a family.
